Views on Life: a commentary

Over all that was and is yet, the world has seen philosophies great and small, profound and common as money...

Still, the why we are here issue is not that complex. Existentially, we are here because here we are. Or, you can compress an individual into "we are born to die." That is so dull it segues straight into "why bother to have children?" A fancy way of saying, why bother to be.

(you need time to waste to think of this kind of stuff)

Now, Evolution says, we are here due to currently imperfectly understood natural processes, and our purpose is to aid The Work through reproduction. Our present critical overpopulation is uncalled for and terminally detrimental. Population reduction followed by ZPG would be nice. If it's not done voluntarily, Mother Nature will take care of it (some pandemic, most likely, as disease spreads in crowds). Philosophy and religion now need only suggest how a life should be spent between birth and death. An afterlife? Talk to me about it after somebody brings back news. Right now, given what I know, I'll stick with Scientific Hedonism.
