The Fall Reassessed

What, ho! man, I'd ask
Of thee
Is it Lucifer with stoney gaze
You expect to see
Arise beyond yon mountains
High to but lay
Upon the world His
Coal sack shadow?

You wait for naught
No stoney gaze does that
Fallen angel wear
But eyes
Their brightness lost
Brim full of sadness to
See humanity's lemming
Race to extinction bound

The only sound the screams
Of men who topple other
Men in their haste to
Meet their end.
A most fallen angel,
Lucifer, aye, but only after
Bathing in the blissful pastel
Person of His God
Who does eject all who
Lack a tooth as sweet.

So upstart king, would-
Be duke is left
With eyes to see us all
But wretchèd failure does
Not countenance advice
Poor human souls denied the
Experience of ages
The wry jests, even, of
Heaven's own James
Dean
